FAQ

Is Orbita really free?

Absolutely! Orbita is open-source software created by volunteer contributors globally in their spare time. Orbita is distributed under the GPLv2 license. The essence of this license is that Orbita is free for anyone to use for any purpose. Other developers can incorporate Orbita's code into their own projects as long as they adhere to the guidelines outlined in the GPLv2 license. Orbita has no watermarks or other limitations and can be used commercially without restrictions.

Is Orbita safe to use? Is it virus free?

Absolutely! Orbita is an open-source project, meaning the programming code is accessible for anyone to review or enhance, allowing you to understand exactly how it functions. Any modifications to the code are examined by other Orbita contributors, ensuring that nothing harmful can be added. As long as you download Orbita from this website, you will receive the latest version, which is safe to use and free from malware. Orbita does not contain advertisements or bundled software/adware—if you have been asked to pay for Orbita, it is a scam, and you should seek a refund or reverse the payment.

The quality on my stream or recording is bad! How can I fix it?

The fastest way to ensure optimal settings is to utilize the Tools / Auto Configuration Wizard in Orbita. This feature will automatically configure most of the basic settings for you. If you're streaming, refer to our Streaming with x264 guide for an introduction to video encoding and tips on how to fine-tune settings to maximize your stream's quality.

For recording, consider using the Simple output mode along with the recording presets. If a hardware encoder is available, it's recommended to use it for your recordings. For more detailed options, check out our local recording guide.

I updated and now nothing in Orbita is working, what happened?

We exercise great caution when implementing updates and conduct thorough testing. Orbita updates are designed to preserve your settings, but occasionally, other elements on your system might interfere with the update process. Typically, updates prompt antivirus and security programs to scrutinize Orbita more closely. Some may even mistakenly flag its behavior as malicious. Ensure that if you are using antivirus software, the Orbita folder is whitelisted. You might need to remove and re-add any .exe files to the whitelist after each update, as some products disregard the whitelist if the file has changed since it was added.

Given that the Orbita Contributors are a small team, we can only test against the hardware and software we have access to. If an error occurs with an update, rest assured that we will address it promptly, be transparent about it, and rectify it as soon as possible.
